we grow through discomfort or insight. But never through apathy.

Disrupting the Brules (Bullsh-t Rules)

We all live by a set of rules that are conditioned into us.
They can rob us of a fuller version of life that we could be tapping into.

Hard work and hustle as a path to success are a modern myth. Inside you is a spirit and a soul that many of us refuse to unleash into the domain of work. But this is a brule. When we bring an awakened mind to work, magic happens.

Most people are living their lives doing work they don’t love, to earn money to afford to live lives they don’t love. Far worse, they lie to themselves about it.
5,369 people across the world die every hour, every day, without having fulfilled their highest potential and experienced their deepest joy. Most of us put off our own happiness and dreams until tomorrow in an attempt to just stay afloat today.

How This Book Was Written

the entrepreneur mindset. It means you’re innovating, creating, honing your skills, and contributing to the world—and not merely spinning a hamster wheel to earn a paycheck.
everyone who is choosing to make a difference in the world by doing their best work, whether you’re self-employed, a contractor, running a billion-dollar company, or working for a company.

Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it’s a feather bed.

-- Terence McKenna

Work was what I had to do to pay the bills to survive.

The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.

L.P. Jacks

The Buddha is the archetype of the spiritual master;
someone who recognizes and uses the power of the world “within us.”

The badass is the archetype of the changemaker;
This is the person who is out there creating change, building, coding, writing, inventing, leading. Pushing humanity forward.
disruptor—the person challenging the norms so we can be better as a species.

Mix of the two gives:

  1. Bliss: You find great joy in what you do. Work and play become one.
  2. Immunity to Overwhelm: You’re no longer burdened by thoughts of overwhelm. Multitasking becomes easy.
  3. Relationships: You’re able to create a positive vibe and generate energy with the people you’re working with. This means all relationships are win-win and all interactions are imbued with positivity and care.
  4. Inspiration On Demand: You’re able to tap into ideas, inspiration, and creativity on demand so that you become a source of innovation and creative output.
  5. Abundance: Whether it’s financial or health, love, and life experiences, you start to see abundance emerging in all areas of your life.
  6. Flow and Ease: Life flows almost as if it’s blessed by luck and synchronicity. It almost feels as if you are held by a benevolent Universe.
  7. Bend Reality: What you want comes to you with ease; you feel as if you are supported by the Universe.

Ten Years of Experiments

I was committed to constantly growing so that I could become the best version of myself. I picked up every book I could read. Studied every author and attended every personal growth seminar I could.

I turned my focus on one singular objective: Create the No. 1 Place in the World to Work.
I figured if I could nail this, everything else would come. The people. The talent. The product innovation. And the money. If I focused on creating such a great workplace, I would also enjoy my job more. And have more time to thrive, grow, and love life.

The Myth of Hard Work

Our broken education systems teach us to survive at a job but not to thrive as a human.

There is our outer world, which is shared with other humans. This is the world of jobs, careers, culture, rituals, and shared meaning with others.
But we also have an inner world. This is the world inside our own heads. It’s our hopes, fears, aspirations, dreams, daily cascade of emotions. It consists of every doubt, every hope, every brazen thought, every secret desire or aspiration. And this world for most people is completely unstructured, messy, and disorganized.

To attain balance a person must bring order to this inner world. This requires knowing what this world consists of and having clear intentions for what you want to experience in this inner world before you go after getting them in your outer world.
And this means refusing to buy into the lie of hard work.

"The Soul’s Experience on Earth Is Not Meant for Hard Work and Toil. It’s Meant for Freedom, Ease, and Expansion."

I discovered that truly extraordinary people are not working “hard” but rather are focused on nurturing certain inner states of being and identities that allow life to unfold for them effortlessly.

Changing Our Mental Models of Work

A mental model is made up of your beliefs. And your beliefs are the master switch for your life.

David Bohm:
Reality is what we take to be true.
What we take to be true is what we believe.
What we believe is based upon our perceptions.
What we perceive depends upon what we look for.
What we look for depends upon what we think.
What we think depends upon what we perceive.
What we perceive determines what we believe.
What we believe determines what we take to be true.
What we take to be true is our reality.

In short, reality doesn’t really exist. We make it all up. All the time. And you can bend reality. You can shift it and mold it and play with it. It’s quite fun. When you get it right, work and life all become one. A masterful act of living perpetually in play as you seem to have superhuman abilities to juggle it all.

The Multidimensional Human Being

Consciousness engineering is a framework for expanding your level of awareness on any subject. It suggests that if we want to grow in a field we pay attention to two things:

  1. Our Models of Reality. A model of reality (MOR) is a belief. And your beliefs become your reality. If you believe that hard work is necessary for success, it will be. For you. Someone else could have a totally different belief.
  2. Our Systems for Living. A system for living (SFL) is a process. It’s your optimized set of procedures for getting something done. For example, a particular routine for the gym. Applied to work, a system might be a way for aligning your goals with your team. Or for multitasking. Or for bringing on superhuman levels of focus and flow.

your beliefs are like your hardware. And your systems like your software.
you upgrade your beliefs by dumping ideas that hold you back and taking on new empowering beliefs. And you upgrade your systems by taking on better, more optimized systems for working.

Jim Kwik:
I want to make the invisible visible. I want to expose the method behind the magic. Whenever you see someone doing something incredible in health, in sports, in business, there is a method to their magic. Because genius leaves clues.

When you apply this approach to life, you get very very good. Very fast. Every chapter in this book will unwrap new models of reality that you are free to adopt, as well as new systems of living that you can apply in your life.

when we don’t question them they trap us. They can rob us of a fuller version of life that we could be tapping into. Now it’s time to disrupt your long-held brules around work.

Bending reality is a particular state of mind where it seems like life unfolds magically.
The trick is to be able to access this state on demand.

Isaacson wrote of Steve:
At the root of his reality distortion was his belief that the rules did not apply to him. He had evidence for this, in his childhood, he had often been able to bend reality to his desires….He had a sense that he was…a chosen one. “He thinks that there are a few people who are special like Einstein and Gandhi and the gurus he met in India—and he’s one of them.”

John D. Rockefeller:
I was early taught to work as well as play,
My life has been one long, happy holiday;
Full of work and full of play—
I dropped the worry on the way—
And God was good to me every day.

to shine at your career and influence your peers.
every human is a leader—but most people fail to claim their power over their own lives and their experiences.
Being a stealth leader means you exert your influence even when you don’t have those three letters after your name.

You Are Not Just a Meat Body Controlled by Neurons

I prefer to think that we are much more than that. We are multidimensional beings.
Meat bodies—yes. Neurons—yes. But we are also a spirit and a soul. We are energy. We are complex creatures filled with deep longings, soul cravings, and unique superpowers ready to be unlocked.

The Three Sections of This Book

aligning your work with your innermost values and soul identity.

Chapter 1: Uncover Your Soulprint

And when you decode them, you’ll discover that the Universe has a plan for who you are meant to be.
Your greatest job is to uncover these unique values, stay true to them, and act from them.

Chapter 2: Attract Your Allies
Greatness is best achieved with others. The world is too complex to strike it alone. People are drawn to you not because of your business plan, but because your dream gives them hope.

This is how you become magnetic and align yourself with the people you need to make any vision a reality.

Chapter 3: Spark Deep Connections
Humans desire to come together. The need to belong is in our DNA.

Chapter 6: Choose Your Mission Wisely
The goal is no longer to just refine yourself or sit in endless introspection. Rather, it’s to use your newfound abilities to make the world better for others, multiple generations down.

How to create visions and goals that truly inspire and excite the world.

Chapter 7: Activating the Visionary in You
Any vision you commit to should be so inspiring that you stay up at night as it pulls you and flirts with you.
Now, here is a big secret: The bigger your vision, the easier it gets.
the Universe is choosing to go through you to realize what the world needs.

Chapter 8: The Unified Brain
To tackle a truly grand vision you need to have many brains; you need a team of people to act as one unified superbrain.
When you learn to create a unified brain you move with amazing speed and prowess.

Chapter 9: Identity Upgrading and the Beautiful Destruction
The Universe acts as a mirror. It reflects back to you what you are. The miracle of this is that you can shift your identity and the world will obey. But you must shift it so deeply you believe the new identity and live life in accordance with it.

A Few Final Words…

It’s time for you to find that inner power and magic to transform the way you function at work and, as a result, inspire everyone around you.
it’s time you start relating to yourself as much bigger and much more powerful.

You’re no different. Bezos. Branson. Musk. Huffington. Winfrey. Pick one. Or if it empowers you, forge your own identity.
It’s time to ask yourself: What type of leader do you want to be? What do you want to experience in this lifetime? What legacy do you want your kids to remember you for?
